Rare antique "Esclavage" necklace in 18kt yellow gold (owl hallmark) adorned with three floral motif plaques enhanced with enamel. The three medallions are linked by three chains. Work of the 19th century, most likely French. Gross weight: 4.60 g Length: 36.00 cm Pendant height: 2.00 cm Condition: slight micro-scratches, knocks and oxidation on the gold parts, and slight lack of enamel, see photos. The "en esclavage" necklace appeared as early as the mid-18th century. It was offered by the fiancé to his fiancée. There are various theories concerning the term "esclavage": for some, its origins lie in the Savoyard and Genevan tradition, in reference to the expression "enchainer l'épouse" ("to chain the bride"); for others, it's a reference to the French word "esclavage" ("slavery"). for others, it has nothing to do with the notion of deprivation of freedom, but rather with the sentimental attachment that binds spouses together; and finally, others say that the abundance of chains that make up this collar is enough to justify the appellation. We'll let you judge for yourself ;)! All our antique necklaces.

Authentication & Certification

Charlotte Rey and Anne Borde help individuals who ask themselves a thousand questions when selling their jewelry(s). How much is it worth on the market? Is it solid gold or gold plated? How to identify stones? And, after all, what if it came from a prestigious house?

With the jewel in hand, the founders of Castafiore determine the nature of the materials, the weight of the gold, the carats of the stones, etc. They are also looking for the trace of a hallmark, a sign of a possible renowned jeweler.

This expertise then gives rise to a digital certificate of authenticity registered in the Blockchain (GoodsID), in other words traceable and unfalsifiable; it will accompany the jewel throughout its existence, over the course of its owners.
